Book the Kidd
A deposit ($150 for standard and $300.00 for exclusive reservations) is due 10 working days from the date that you make your reservation. This deposit is non-refundable. Payment of the remaining balance is due 30 days prior to the night of your stay. Acceptable forms of payment include cash, check, money order or credit card. NOTE: There will be other groups aboard ship on the night of your stay unless you book an Exclusive Reservation which requires a minimum of 100 participants. There are no refunds for groups that arrive with fewer people than were initially booked.  Also, please note that we cannot guarantee available bunk space for any last-minute additions.Individuals taking the tour only during an overnight camp must still pay the full price of $22.00.
Cancellations: All deposits are non-refundable, though they may be transferred to a new date if the USS KIDD is given notice 30 day prior to the night of your stay and if the new date requested is available. Exceptions to the 30-day notice include: 1) ice on the decks 2) the imminent danger due to the arrival of a hurricane. In these circumstances, your group coordinator will be contacted by the USS KIDD Reservation Staff.  Rainfall is not grounds for cancellation of an Overnight.
Reservations: Overnights are conducted 7 days a week. The most popular nights are Friday’s and Saturday’s. Group coordinators should call ahead several months in advance. Our busiest season occurs between January and May. Overnight bookings cannot be made on the following dates: July 3, July 4, Thanksgiving Eve, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.
Reservations may be made by calling (225) 342-1942, Monday thru Friday, from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.  Please note: inquiries for information and/or date availability do not constitute booking an overnight camp. Checks should be written out to: USS KIDD Veterans Memorial. In the memo section of the check, please indicate the date of your overnight reservation and the group.

It has been said by every generation that you learn by doing.  Hands-on education is the key-word in today's university classrooms where the teachers of tomorrow are being trained.  And in teaching a course on World War II history and the United States' island-hopping campaign across the Pacific, or the Battle of the Atlantic where the threat of German U-boats loomed constantly, what better way to apply a hands-on approach than to take a field trip to the USS KIDD, a vessel which actually participated in those events?  Let your students see where a Japanese kamikaze pilot crashed his plane into the ship, the conditions that their grandfathers lived in, and the dangers a U-boat posed to a ship with a hull only three-eighths of an inch think.

Tours are approximately 1½ hours in duration and include a guided tour of the USS KIDD and a self-guided tour of the museum.  Time spent shopping should be considered in setting your itinerary so as to avoid running late to your next stop. There are a limited number of guides available to escort groups through a tour of the USS KIDD.  Please keep in mind that your guides have been called in specifically for this tour; some are paid staff and some are volunteers.  If your group is running behind schedule, please give us advance warning by calling ahead so that we can plan this delay around the arrival of other groups and functions.

Reservations may be made by calling (225) 342-1942, Tuesday through Friday, from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Hours of operation are 9:30am to 3:30 pm, Monday -Friday 10am 4pm Saturday-Sunday. The memorial is closed on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Years Eve and New Years Day.  Guided tours are not available on Armed Forces Day or July 4th due to limited staff availability caused by special events held on these days. Guided tours are available only for groups of 20 people or more and adequate adult supervision is required; at least one (1) adult per every ten (10) children. Greater supervision by adults is needed for younger age groups for matters of safety.

Reservations should be made at least one week (7 days) in advance in order to guarantee a guided tour and discount rate.  Those groups looking for dates in the spring and summer should call ahead as soon as possible in order to determine if the desired time and date are available.  Group tours are staggered throughout the day, so please be prepared with secondary preferences for days and times. The following discount rates are available for groups of 20 or more Pre-school children ages 2+ should be included in your numbers for paid admission and must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. In the event of rain, ice, or other inclement weather you may wish to change your reservation to Museum-Only status.  This option allows you to tour the museum on your own (self-guided) without the need to worry about slipping hazards on deck or having your group getting caught outdoors in the rain.
NOTE: the age range of your class should be taken into consideration when booking your tour.  Younger children (Kindergarten & Pre-School) may have trouble navigating the ladders aboard ship.  Main Deck Tours are possible in such cases, as well as Museum-Only Tours. Please notify us as soon as possible to cancel an existing reservation.  This will allow another group the opportunity to enjoy the ship and the museum.  All groups hat cancel without prior notification (i.e. no shows) are subject to a charge of $25.00 per tour guide scheduled for that tour.

The discount rate for tours of 20 people or more are as follows:
Adult (ages 18-59) $9 per person
Child (ages 5-12; Grades K-8) $5 per person
Teen (ages 13-18; Grades 9-12) $7 per person
Military (ID required) $7 per person
Senior (60 and older) $7 per person

Birthday parties at the USS Kidd Veterans Memorial are unique and lots of fun! While the ship itself is not an ideal location to host a party, we can ensure a memorable birthday for your child. We recommend having pizza, cake, ice cream and opening presents in our snack bar area that seats approximately 30 people and is located on the first floor of the museum. For more birthday party information, please contact us at: (225) 342-1942.
How To Find Your Ship/Squadron/Unit Reunion

The first thing that you must do is determine if a reunion group even exists for your unit or ship.  But how to do that?  Simple.  On this page, you will find:
  • contact information for national veterans organizations for various military groups including where available website links.
  • a listing of military history and veterans magazines and publications which feature military reunion notices in each issue
Once you've determined that your group exists, it is simply a matter of getting into contact with the group coordinator and adding your name to their mailing list.  Good hunting and good luck!
The USS KIDD is not responsible for the content on any of these sites or magazines, nor is this listing meant to be comprehensive.  It is merely provided as a convenience for those of our guests wishing to connect with their former comrades-in-arms.  If you find a link that is no longer active, please notify us via email.
