‘First Free Sunday’ is a partnership program among several downtown Baton Rouge museums that gives families an opportunity to visit local museums free of charge.
"We want families to enjoy the last weekend of summer together before the kids head back to school," said Alejandra Juan, Executive Director of the USS KIDD Veterans Memorial & Museum.
As summer draws to a close and a new school year begins, many children across the country view these next few days as a last chance for "freedom" before returning to the classroom and homework assignments.
"The KIDD lets youngsters learn valuable lessons while disguised in a format of fun," said Tim NesSmith, Ship’s Superintendent and Education Outreach Coordinator. "We mix education and recreation."
The USS KIDD’s ‘End of Summer Bash’ event is certain to be fun and educational for the whole family. As Sunday is National Friendship Day, attendees will be able to make friendship bracelets to share with a friend. There will be self-guided tours, indoor and outdoor games, arts and crafts, refreshments, movies in the theatre, and much more.
