Independence Day is right around the corner and now is the time to make plans to attend the USS KIDD’s 4th of July Spectacular! The USS KIDD’s 4th of July Spectacular is the place to be as friends and families gather to commemorate our nation’s independence while enjoying ice cold drinks, delicious food and a variety of musical performances. "Thanks to all of our wonderful partnerships and sponsors, we will once again be able to host another 4th of July celebration that the entire downtown Baton Rouge community can be proud of,” said USS KIDD Executive Director David Beard. Start getting your red, white and blue ready to shine and join the KIDD Crew for this reenergized community event taking place on Wednesday, July 4th, from 4 p.m. – 10 p.m. on the River Levee Stage, located between the USS KIDD Veterans Museum and Red Stick Plaza.
This year we will be having a walking Patriotic Popsicle Parade that will begin at Florida Blvd on the Levee and continue to the USS KIDD. The walking and rolling parade will include an electronic second line lead by BeatBot, a mobile DJ, and Uncle Sam on stilts and much more. We want to encourage everyone to participate in this parade and come march in your red, white and blue! Bring your roller-skates, hoola hoops, and skateboards! Once we reach the end of the parade we will have a dance party and pass out free popsicles to all attending.
Planned performances include appearances from Curley Taylor and the Zydeco Trouble and SeraBee. SeraBee provides lead vocals, plays the drums, keyboards, and acoustic and steel guitar. She is memorable for her 2011 stint on The Voice. The lineup is sure to have attendees dancing. Local vendors, such as All Star Catering, Snow Days, Cajun Concessions and more will appeal to a variety of taste buds. Coke, Sprite, Lemonade and all your summer time favorites will be available for purchase! For all guests 21 and older, adult beverages can be purchased! The USS KIDD’s Zone was carefully planned to ensure the entire family will enjoy themselves while visiting downtown. BREC on the Geaux will once again be hosting the Kids Zone. There will be face painting, hotdog eating contest, watermelon seed-spitting contest and much more.
