The Lone Star WW2 Living History Crew is excited to come aboard the USS KIDD,” said James Lightbody, Executive Officer for the group. “We strive to work with museum staff for these events in order to maximize resources and generate the greatest benefit and public awareness that is possible.” The KIDD Museum formed a small living history crew in the mid-2000s. However, the program was eventually put on hiatus as the number of volunteers available to participate dropped through attrition as members left the area due to career moves. Partnering with visiting groups like Lone Star is the first step toward bringing that program back to life, NesSmith says. “It’s been part of our long-range educational planning for some time now.” The Living History Weekend will be held on Saturday, February 25, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and on Sunday, February 26, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Those individuals interested in volunteering for the KIDD’s Mini Field Day on Saturday, February 25, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. should contact the museum ahead of time at 225-342-1942, x. 15.
